For Somatic Stretch trainees and individuals looking to reset and revive

                                                                                                                      *
Join us at Indian Point in Rangeley, Maine where beautiful lake waters, fresh air and home made, organic meals accompany our classes in Somatic Stretch® for trainees and individuals wanting to reset, rejuvenate and return home inspired.

Here, our trainees can join with other interested ‘stretchers’ (those not in training) to take a deeper dive into the body for four days of studies that help teachers attain certification, certified teachers to hone their skills, and everyone to leave rejuvenated.

This is a self-care retreat that will inspire a new outlook on the how to bring Somatic Stretch motivation home with you, and keep it going!

Indian Point is a remarkable property owned by our friends, four hours from either Boston or Montreal in a breathtaking lake district in Maine. Swimming, paddle boarding, lounging, writing and walking are all encouraged between organic meals, daily classes and a trip to Wilhelm Reich’s lab and museum to learn more about physical and emotional armoring.

Classes and Activities

We will be offering classes for trainees to hone their skills AND offer an opportunity for non-teachers who want to learn more about their bodies and also leave with a valuable technique that they can ground in this workshop and take into their daily lives. We will be covering such things as:

* Anatomy that is actually *fun* to learn (because that’s how we teach it!) that focuses on how to communicate confidently with other professionals in the field by learning the most significant muscles and nerves.  Every modality has their own lingo and ‘fashionable muscle’ they like to focus on and we will learn why they are important, how they are represented in other modalities (such as Western medicine, massage, yoga or shiatsu) and how this knowledge is helpful when teaching Somatic Stretch – or just learning about your own body!

* We will learn how to read tension patterns in bodies to better understand our students process, giving us insight into what they are holding and where, what they are ready to release and what will take them some time, and how best to guide them through that territory. This is a fun class where you get to give and receive deeper information about the bodies of you and your classmates, helping each person to work with their own patterning that much more, becoming better teachers along the way.

* One of the big attractions – aside from the classic Maine architecture, wooden paneled bedrooms and bathrooms, gorgeous property, inviting hot tub and loons calling on the lake as you fall asleep – is the fact that Wilhelm Reich’s home and laboratory is right down the road.

This pioneer was a contemporary of Freud’s in Vienna starting at the young age of 23, and he grew to be famous, infamous and imprisoned by the American government after fleeing the fascist regimes in Europe. He published many books as he scientifically went about researching how to quantify ‘life force’ in the body and his books were the ONLY ones ever burned by the US government when he was sent to prison, where he died in 1957 at the age of 60. His property, home and lab in Rangeley has been kept with great care, just as he left it 60 years ago, down to the coats and shoes he left in the closet the day he left his home to go to jail and never return.

What did this man do to provoke such a massive governmental response and what significance is his work today? We will be taking a tour through his lab and museum, learning about the world of ‘character armoring’ and how our tensions affect the psyche. There is so much to say about Reich that I will save it for the retreat, and can only say now that I will be offering a very rare wander through his life and work as I have been studying him for many years, and also have had the good fortune to study at his lab with MD’s and PhD’s dedicated to keeping his work alive.

* We will be learning about Fractal Anatomy, how to see the geometric structure of the nervous system to witness core tension patterns in the body. This is the other half of my life’s work that I add within the Somatic Stretch program as it helps us to understand all the more how the nervous system plays a part in our tension patterns and how to access them for better release and health results.

This is a comprehensive study between Western and Eastern medical systems and you can learn more through the free, short videos online on Meredith’s webpage here.
