Somatic Stretch® classes are currently taught in two locations: our headquarters in Toronto, Canada, and in Ojai, California, about 80 miles north of Los Angeles.
The main studio is conveniently located at 681 Markham St. in the Annex area of midtown Toronto, Canada, within steps of both the main Bathurst Street stop and the Markham St. exit of the Bloor subway line. City parking is also steps away and street parking can usually be found nearby as well.
Directions to Toronto studio
Using the Bloor subway line, get off at Bathurst St. and go to the Markham St. exit on the subway level. Two flights of steps will take you up to Markham St. Once there, turn right and walk a half block to London St., where you cross the street to the entrance of 681 Markham on London. If you exit at the main entrance on Bathurst St., you will have to cross Bathurst, walk up to London and go left on London to the same spot.
In brief, 681 Markham St. is located on the north-east corner of Markham and London and there is no door on Markham St. The entrance is on London.
A 90-minute private instruction session is encouraged for anyone with physical concerns that limit or interfere with daily activities, such as back, neck and shoulder pain, slouching posture, over-arched lower back, hunched back or forward poking head, lack of abdominal strength, foot problems or overall lack of well-being.
The fee for the first session, which includes an assessment of your posture, is $125. A reinforcing 90-minute session is $85. Further sessions of 60 minutes, if required, are $60. An Intro class may also be joined when one is available.
Toronto classes generally run throughout the year with breaks in the latter part of August and December. Intro classes for people new to this work are scheduled periodically.
A new Intro class is starting on Oct. 11, 2017 on Wednesdays, 6:15 to 7:45 for people wishing to explore this technique. Fees range from $18 per class for a full series with a breakdown for less than a full series, to $25 for a single class. It is recommended that not less than 6 classes are taken to evaluate the benefits of the technique. The current fall session runs for 10 weeks.
A prerequisite for joining an Intro class is the purchase of the Stress Releaser book and stretchcloth at $20. The cloth is used in classes and the book provides illustrated exercises to work with at home. As well, any one of the three Level 1 videos on the store page is highly recommended. This will give you a good idea of what to expect in classes and will help you work into the exercises with some familiarity. The video will also help you keep the work going between classes and when you have to miss a class.
If you have previous experience in bodywork, you may ask to join an ongoing class beyond the Intro level. Ongoing classes are held on Saturdays, 10.30 a.m.-12 p.m. All classes last one and one-half hours.

Classes are also offered in California and world wide by Meredith Sands Keator, Lilian’s daughter. The main branch studio is located in Ojai, CA., one and a half hours north of Los Angeles. Continuing Education Workshops (CEU)
Two Somatic Stretch® workshops in Category A have been approved for CEUs by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario:
Proper Use of Body Mechanics and Postural Alignment – 7 CEUs
This is a 2-day workshop of 7 hours a day, involving lecture and discussion of postural principles as well as participation in the full Somatic Stretch® floor and standing exercises. This is an excellent workshop for massage therapists to use personally for their own bodily comfort as well as for material to pass on to their clients. It would be especially useful for anyone considering the Teacher Training Program.
Shoulder Tension Release – 1.5 CEUs
The Shoulder Tension Release is a technique developed by Lilian that offers massage or other therapists an alternative method of treating patients who have shoulder tension issues and/or raised shoulders. It is a hands-on method that typically produces an overall sense of total relaxation and results in shoulders being noticeable lowered.

The quiet ambience and carpeted floor of the studio makes it ideal for bodywork classes or workshops such as yoga and Pilates. There are currently several instructors of these disciplines conducting ongoing classes. Rental can be on a one-time, weekly, or weekend basis. Please contact the Toronto studio for rental fees.
